Run the Edge FAQ’s

Challenge questions

+ What is a virtual fitness challenge and how does it work?

Run The Edge’s virtual fitness challenges are designed to make running, walking and all fitness activities motivating and fun. You can participate in our virtual fitness challenges anywhere, at any time, and with anyone. To complete the challenge, you can walk, run, bike, hike, treadmill, etc.

It’s easy! Each challenge requires you to register – after that, you are given access to your RTE tracker app, the private Facebook community, and all email updates from us. Any additional gear will be shipped after registration is complete.

The challenges all consist of mileage goals that you can achieve on your own and/or as a team with milestone achievement goals along the way to the final challenge goal.

+ How do you compare to other companies that run virtual fitness chal

1. We do not charge you ticketing or processing fees.

2. Everything is done by our small but mighty team: customer service, shipping, social, app development, and program management. We are a small team of 4 that love what we do.

3. Your inquiries are answered quickly by one of our team members, not AI and not a Bot. We cherish the opportunity to get to know our members and assist them with anything they need during the challenge.

4. We exchange swag for free. No need to pay us extra for re-stocking. Just send it back and we’ll replace or exchange it. We want you to be happy and wear your RTE gear proudly.

5. Our challenges last all year long (or longer) and have milestones to keep you going all year.  We also have shorter challenges that last one month for those special occasions like logging an exercise streak.

+ How long do I have to complete a virtual challenge?

It varies by challenge. The Run The YearⓇ Challenge is a year-long challenge, but the Amerithon Challenge can go as long as three years. From time to time we also offer special challenges that last one month, like the Streaker or Hero’s Journey.

Remember – life happens, injuries happen, distractions happen. We encourage you to be proud of every mile you log in our challenges. Be proud of the steps you’re taking to better yourself. Every mile you log with us is an additional deposit in your bank of fitness.

Please note that both the Run The YearⓇ, Walk the Year and Amerithon Challenges allow you to complete the challenge as an individual and/or as a team. Consider joining a team or grabbing a partner to tackle those last miles!

+ How do I participate?

The first step is to register for a challenge. You will choose a digital registration or a bundle package that includes registration and swag like a medal, tech shirt, hoodie, etc.

Next you download the app from the App Store or Playstore, sync your device (or choose to manually enter miles) and you’re on your way!

Our virtual challenges require you to perform physical activity on your own time. We ask you to log as many miles as you can by walking, running, biking, hiking, exercise classes, or whatever works best for you. The catch? Challenge yourself. Push yourself, your health and your fitness levels, and work toward a better you.

Our participants come from all walks of life – age, size, shape, and ability varies. Our challenges can also be completed on a team – divide miles and complete the challenge with friends, family, coworkers, even strangers!

+ How many challenges can I do at one time?

You can do all the active challenges and the best part is whatever device you sync with will log miles in all of the challenges. If you want to keep one challenge separate, you can also manually enter miles.

For example you may want to do Run the Year but also the North Amerithon which can span across three years. So, each of your Run the Year program miles will count towards Amerithon.

+ How do I complete the challenge as a team?

It’s easy! First, register for the challenge you want to participate in. Then either create your own team or search the app for a team that is accepting members. You’ll find our community to be inclusive and supportive and most teams are open to including others.

You can only be on one team at a time in each challenge, but you can do two separate challenges, such as Run the Year and Walk the Year, and be on a separate team in each challenge.

+ How do I get a discount?

There are two ways to get discounted registration. For Run the Year and Walk the Year, we have an Early Bird sign-up period that runs from September 1st to September 30th. Early Bird’s receive a 10% discount on all registration and swag.

We also have group/corporate discounts for 10 or more. To qualify for this discount, at least 50% of the group must be first-time participants with Run the Edge. The discounts start at 10% and go up depending on the number of people. Please reach out to us at info@runtheedge.com for details.

We also have a custom challenge for groups of 50 or more called Run the Month or Walk the Month. Challenge your team to log as many miles as possible in one month. This is a great way to build relationships, teambuild, or create a fundraiser based on the number of miles achieved. Email us at info@runtheedge.com for more information.

+ How do I track my miles?

Once you register for a program you are given a personal RTE Tracker account. You can enter your miles manually or import your FitBit, Garmin, Apple Health, Samsung Health, Oura Ring, or Strava miles with our auto sync features.

You will only have one RTE Tracker account that will host all of the programs you are enrolled in. You can easily change by clicking a dropdown arrow and choosing the program you want to see.

The Run the Edge Tracker App can be found in the IOS App Store and the Google Playstore. Please search Run the Edge and look for this icon.

+ How do I get a shirt, medal, or challenge pack?

All challenge items are sold individually in our store, or available at the time of registration in “bundle” options. Registration alone does not include challenge gear – it must be added unless you ordered a swag bundle.Every registration comes with personal acce

+ What's the difference between Run The Edge, Running The Edge, Run The Year, and Amerithon?

Run The Edge is our company name! Running The Edge is our best selling book. As a company, we put on the Run The Year, Walk the Year and Amerithon Challenges.

+ How do I meet other members if I don’t have social media?

RTE uses Facebook Groups for community support and communications. While many people do not have social media, it is a way for us to host a place where people can share their achievements, questions, look for a team, etc. Please keep in mind that you need a FB account but it does not need to be public. You can choose to limit the visibility of your account to “only me” and still join the RTE Facebook Group.

You can also follow people and teams within the RTE app, but there is not a posting feature in the app.
